Cis-dicarbonyl binding at cobalt and iron porphyrins with saddle-shape conformation.

Diatomic molecules attached to complexed iron or cobalt centres are important in many biological processes. In natural systems, metallotetrapyrrole units carry respiratory gases or provide sensing and catalytic functions. Conceiving synthetic model systems strongly helps to determine the pertinent chemical foundations for such processes, with recent work highlighting the importance of the prost...

Oxygen Binding to Cobalt Porphyrins

The thermodynamic constants of oxygen binding to cobalt “picket fence” porphyrin complexes, meso-tetra(a,o,a,oo-pivalamidophenyl)porphyrinatocobalt(II)1 -methylimidazole and 1,2-dimethylimidazole, are reported. In contrast to previously studied cobalt porphyrins, these complexes bind oxygen with the same affinity as cobalt substituted myoglobin and hemoglobin. Solvation effects are discussed as...

Carbon monoxide binding to iron porphyrins.

The carbon monoxide affinities of iron complexes of meso-tetra (alpha, alpha, alpha, alpha-o-pivalamidophenyl)porphyrin (the "picket fence" porphyrin) and of a "picket fence" porphyrin derivative with an appended axial base have been measured in solution and compared with the CO affinities of various hemoproteins. The model complexes bind CO with much greater affinity than normal hemoproteins; ...

Dioxygen binding of water-soluble iron(II) porphyrins in phosphate buffer at room temperature.

Two water-soluble tris(2-aminoethylamine) (tren) capped iron porphyrins were synthesized. The stability of their dioxygen adducts was studied in phosphate buffer, leading to half-life times around 7 min for the oxygenated species.
